In case you missed it, Aussie Millions is presently in full swing. The annual mega-poker event at the Crown Casino in Melbourne is in its second week and several big names have already taken down titles.
Toby Lewis has been on fire over the last three years at Aussie Millions. The British superstar took down his third title in as many years after winning the Shot Clock Six-Max for $148,030. Meanwhile, Finland’s Jussi Nevanlinna took down the 8-Game title. Finally, Jorryt Van Hoof took down the A$25,000 PLO Challenge for around A$467,280.
Toby Lewis Wins Shot Clock Six-Max
Toby Lewis has simply been dominant at Aussie Millions over the last three years. In 2018, he won the Aussie Millions Main Event. He followed that up with a victory in the A$50,000 Challenge in 2019. This year, he has won yet another event, this time taking down the Shot Clock Six-Max Event.
The Shot Clock Six-Max Event drew a field of 258 players and the final table included some top-tier poker talent. In addition to the eventual winner, Justin Liberto, Xiajing Ji, and Kwok Kong all made the final table.
For the win, Lewis earned A$148,030. This gives him over A$3.2 million in tournament cashes since 2018. Lewis told reporters, “Everyone always jokes that each year I come back to Melbourne to ‘pick up my wages.”
Lewis had an advantage over the other players at this table thanks to his experience playing online poker at Australian online casinos and casinos around the world. This event required decisions to be made in 30 seconds with no time banks.
According to Lewis, “I’ve played so much online poker, so I find making decisions with 30 seconds ok because I know what to do in a lot of spots. I think that’s a pretty big advantage.”

Jussi Nevanlinna Wins 8-Game Event
Finland’s Jussi Nevanlinna took down the 8-Game title on Tuesday after outlasting a solid mixed game field. The final table of the event included well known Aussie pro David Steicke. Another strong mixed game player that made the final was Daniel Mayoh. He won the H.O.R.S.E. Event in 2019,
Nevanlinna earned A$51,975 for the victory, just his second cash ever in Australia. According to the winner, he would have gladly came to Melbourne just for the weather. He says that Finland is very cold this time of year and the nice weather is a lovely change of pace. Playing at the Crown is proving much more profitable than playing at online casinos in Australia.
He also brought his family with him, so he plans to use the event as a partial vacation. He now has a nice chunk of money to put towards his family time.

Jorryt van Hoof Wins PLO Challenge
How would you celebrate getting engaged to the love of your life? If you’re Jorryt van Hoof, you’d go and win enough money to cover the wedding. Jorryt van Hoof recently got engaged and then turned around and took down the A$25,000 PL Omaha Challenge at Aussie Millions.
An event of this stature will naturally have a stacked final table. Joining Van Hoof at the final table were UK high stakes superstar Stephen Chidwick, Australia’s Martin Kozlov, and Farid Jattin from Columbia.
Ultimately, Van Hoof defeated Hun Lee heads-up for the title and A$467,280 in prize money. That should be enough to cover his upcoming nuptials.
Despite being best known for his third-place finish at the 2014 WSOP Main Event, he just recently switched to playing poker tournaments full time. He explained that he and his future wife recently sold their house and are traveling the world. Things are going well thus far for the soon-to-be newlyweds.
